Directions to Riverside Canoe from Charlotte/Winston Salem area with the Detour on 16 North:

Take 77 North (from Charlotte) or 40 (from Winston Salem) to 421 North heading toward North Wilkesboro.  Follow 421 North through North Wilkesboro.  You'll come to a set of traffic lights that will show 421 continuing straight toward Boone, and 16 North to the right.  Take that right and follow 16 North for about 16 miles where you will come to the Detour taking you to the left onto 163 West heading into West Jefferson.  Follow 163 for a little over 9 miles where you will come to a set of lights that will show 221 North to the right.  Take that right and follow 221 North through West Jefferson and Jefferson for about 4.5 miles where you will come to an intersection, (no lights) that shows 221 North and 16 North to the left.  Take that left which puts you on 16 North.  Follow for 6.5 miles where you will take a right onto Old 16 North heading toward Crumpler.  This is not a big intersection, just a right turn so watch your mileage for that 6.5 mile point.  Follow Old 16 North for one mile and take a right onto Chestnut Hill Rd.  Follow for two miles and take a left onto George McMillan Rd.  Follow straight down (no turns) for 2.5 miles and we are on the left.  Note:  George McMillan Rd. changes names 2 more times by the time you get to us, so don't let that confuse you.  Once you take that left onto George McMillan, just come straight down 2.5 miles.
