Canoe Camp - Learn to Canoe and Kayak.

Instructor and guide Terry Kepple has over 30 years of experience in canoeing and kayaking having completed many years of marathon racing.  In 1976 Terry had the privelege of trying out for the Olympic Paddling team.  Terry has also been involved with Boy Scouts of America for many years and is an avid camper and outdoorsman.

DAILY CANOE CAMP for kids aged 9 - 15

Offered in different one week sessions throughout the summer, canoe camp is held daily from 9am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday.  Participants learn how to paddle both canoes and kayaks spending a majority of their day on the New River.  Along with basic paddling techniques, campers will learn how to handle a boat in many situations on the river, including what to do if the boat tips over.  Campers will also learn about the ecology and dynamics of the New River through learning sessions with New River State Park rangers and staff from the National Committee for the New River. At the end of the week, campers will be joined by their families for a paddling trip on the river so that they can demonstrate their new skills, followed by a family BBQ.  Maximum number of participants is 8.

See dates for daily camp below.

OVERNIGHT CANOE CAMP for ages 12 and up.

Overnight Canoe Camp is open to kids 12 years old & up.  Participants will spend 5 days and 4 nights canoeing and camping along the New River.  Kids will spend days on different sections of the river while learning basic and refined paddling techniques, water safety, dynamics of the New River, etc.  Each night participants will camp at a different camp ground along the river learning and refining camping and outdoor skills. Maximum number of participants for Over Night Camp is 8.

See dates for overnight camp below.

ADVENTURE CLUB for ages 14 -18.

Riverside Canoe's Adventure Club is a week long overnight camp. Along with paddling the New River, participants will experience other parks and outdoor activities in NC and beyond, including white water rafting, caving, rock climbing, biking, hiking, to name a few.  Participants must have some paddling and camping experience.  Maximum number of participants is 8.  See dates for Adventure Club below.

ADULT CANOE CAMP

So many parents and other adults have been impressed (and envious) of our canoe camp for kids that many have requested an adult version of Canoe Camp.  We now offer an overnight canoe/camping/adventure trip for adults - 18 & over.  This is a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle.  We can customize a trip to include up to 5 days and 4 nights to include paddling the New River, White Water rafting in Virginia, mountain climbing, biking, etc.  These trips are offered from April through the end of October.  Reservations are required. Call to arrange for your "Canoe Camp".  What fun you'll have.
